YMCA North Staffordshire ~ site signage

Harding Road is the main site for the YMCA in Stoke-on-Trent and was the focus for the building of the new Youth Campus. Three key buildings occupy this site (Administration, Accommodation and Activity Centre) so when we were asked to look at the signage we knew we had our work cut-out!

Applying the new logotype (or ‘badging’) the site was the first priority. This included a double-sided free standing sign acknowledging the principal funders. In addition to this, we also looked at the creation of ‘high level’ signage on key buildings and also directional signage (exterior and interior) and locational signage (exterior and interior).

Working closely with the client and the appointed contractor (Signlex) the scope of work included;

  • Site visit(s) to identify requirements
  • Designing a ‘system‘, with recommendations for materials and sizes. ‘Testing’ prior to release of artwork.
  • Production of digital artwork
  • Project management from start to finish and over-seeing of installation.

Designed with clarity
The system we used was very simple. Using the corporate colour palette, all directional signage used black text on a white background, all locational signage used white text on a solid grey background.

All signage was produced to a fixed budget. This included design, production and installation and of course, project management. In order to help save costs we created all high level signs (three in total) and cut perspex signage (two in total) to consistent sizes. All design work was also undertaken to an agreed fee, giving the client a significant saving on cost. Some of the signage has been shown here, but if you’d like to find out more, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
