We have recently completed the design for a 48 page report about homelessness in Stoke-on-Trent.
The report and findings from the research were officially launched last Friday, at the Garrick Theatre in Stoke. The event was attended by the academic, voluntary and business sectors – where the business sector was invited to engage with the problem.
The report was written by Dr Phil Brown and his team at Salford Housing & Urban Studies Unit (SHUSU) at the University of Salford and is the result of three years research into homelessness. The report features interviews and ‘life stories’ from a range of people who have experienced homelessness.
Document design
The document was designed and artworked in a week, so quite a few late nights and sparks flying from our macs! It features a restricted colour palette, using blues, grey and black – accompanied by a splash of red. Photographs were duo-toned with the blue to help pull everything together. The page layout uses a two column grid, with key quotes from the interviews featured on most pages (a key objective was to make the ‘life stories’ more engaging to the reader). Photography was provided by Ciara Leeming, having been commissioned by the client.
Although the document has a large page count, only 200 were printed, so we went down the digital print route. It was printed by Brookes in Stoke-on-Trent. We have published the report on-line so you can have an interactive read at issuu.com.
